Stop advertising high interest private loans (Policy lapse, Submitted by Ellie Gomersall)

    Passed
The Union must ban all adverts for high interest private loans, such as those currently being advertised on the RedBox screens for Future Finance. The Union should contact RedBox and request all adverts for Future Finance are removed from our screens.

Why you think it is important

Future Finance offers student loans with interest rates between 8% and 23.7% - this is higher than those of government funded loans which currently have a maximum rate of 5.4%. In addition, Future Finance require you to start paying back whilst you're still studying. Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com recently criticised the loans, saying they were "inappropriate for the huge majority of recipients". It's deeply irresponsible for the Union to continue allowing adverts for such a controversial and dangerous company on our screens.

Is there anything else you think we should know?

UCAS was recently criticised for sending an email advertising Future Finance: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49606180
