COVID-19 Support for Keyworkers with Children

    Passed
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and increased restrictions, several groups of students, including the Health Sciences department, are finding it difficult to arrange child care with reduced access to child minders. As they do not have full time Keyworker status, they do not have easy or clear access, or any at all in some areas, to places in nursery's and schools. Information should be clearer regarding their keyworker status, and more assistance should be signposted regarding help. Students are full time, and do not get the benefit of keyworker status at all times, which is unfair.

Why you think it is important

If students are unable to make their placement hours, or complete assignments/exams/take part in class due to the pandemic and lack of childcare-which they could access if more help was given- then the completion rate and graduation numbers will drop drastically.

Is there anything else you think we should know?

A blanket letter to cover the learning experience of the student - which includes prep for placements and exams - would be beneficial for students and their families.
