Joining the representation team is a great opportunity while you're at UWS! Usually course reps are chosen by their coursemates at the beginning of the year, but if your course doesn't have a rep you can become a rep at any time. Find out if your course has a rep, or read on to be convinced to join our team!

FAQs
What are the benefits of being a course rep?
Being a Course Rep at UWS is a fantastic opportunity for students but we know you might need a bit of convincing so here are six benefits of being a rep:
Help your course mates by collecting their opinions, sharing these in meetings with staff, and working together with staff to improve their courses.
Become part of a team. Reps get to meet each other throughout the year at training and support sessions and often create a great community. You also have the opportunity to work with the student presidents!
See how the university works through rep work in partnership with staff and your membership of Student Council.
Meet senior management at Student Council which all reps are members of. Each meeting begins with Senior Management Question Time where reps can ask questions of UWS Senior Management – even the principal attends at least once a year!
Get voting rights to decide Student Union policy. As part of rep membership of Student Council, reps vote on student union policy which sets the direction of the Student Union for the next four years!
Develop your skills. Full training and support are provided for reps and gathering feedback and information presenting it in a meeting, and working together to find solutions are all skills which are applicable to almost any job.
What do course reps actually do?
The rep role has five main tasks:
- Talking to their course mates and gathering their opinions and ideas.
- Attending meetings with staff to feed back their course mates’ opinions.
- Working together with staff to improve UWS for their course mates and future students.
- Feeding back information from these meetings to their course mates
- Attending student council meetings to vote on policy and meet Senior Management.
How do I become a course rep?
This year course rep elections are being organised by your programme leaders, so the first thing to do is to talk to your lecturer to let them know you are interested and they will facilitate the process from there. If you need any extra support though, please contact our representation staff team.
What if I want to become a Divisional Rep/School Officer/Student President?
This year, divisional reps are being chosen from the pool of course reps - so become a course rep first. School Officers and Student Presidents are elected by cross campus ballot in Spring of each year, and you can find out more about this and how to put yourself forward in our elections section.
