ROLE DESCRIPTION

Local volunteers provide essential food shopping to older people experiencing difficulties doing their weekly grocery shopping ensuring they can eat well, live well and age well. Shopping is between 7am and 9am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Morrisons and Tesco. Delivery drivers pick up the shopping at the supermarket around 9.30am and deliver around Renfrewshire. 

ABOUT THIS ORGANISATION

Food Train is a registered charity, voluntary organisation, and social enterprise. Since 1995 Food Train has been making daily life easier for older people, providing vital services to those who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability. Food Train makes hundreds of grocery deliveries every week, ensuring those most in need have access to fresh groceries.

WHAT COULD YOU GAIN?

Volunteering with Food Train is a great way to give back to the community. Our volunteers build great relationships with each other and our clients. We provide training for the role and any disclosure checks necessary. Volunteers are provided with uniforms and expenses. We have several corporate volunteers throughout the year including from Morgan Stanley and Chubb insurance.

WHEN CAN I VOLUNTEER?

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

No experience is necessary for shoppers. Drivers will need a driving license and be subject to a PVG disclosure (this is provided by the charity). 

REQUIREMENTS FOR STARTING THE ROLE

Drivers will be subject to a PVG check. We like to have an informal chat with prospective volunteers to discuss the roles.
