Our UWS Debating Society continues to be active with their weekly meetings, ambitious in trying to compete on a higher level this term, and organising fun activities that allow the members to form true friendships!

They started off their term with the most inventive welcome event this year: Controversial Opinions Night ✨

After some introductions and games to get to know one another, each student had the chance to go up on stage and explain their controversial opinion and theory. They then faced questions from the crowd that challenged them to justify their argument. From thought-provoking to entertaining to right up silly opinions - all of which have been presented. See for yourself:

  • Q: “What foundations in science do you have to prove the existence of aliens?" A: “Men in Black”

  • “Clowns are aliens and they’re going to eat us all. We need to make peace with clowns, because I don’t believe in war”

  • “I want to lie to people’s faces”

  • “Does anyone else want another shot at me?”

The event was finished off with some food & conversation 😋

Besides their weekly meetings, the society has also partnered with the UWS Muslim Students' Association to host a fun Quiz Night to raise money for Charity Week. Suspicously, a lot of the questions were very much related to the host of the evening 🫶😏

Since team-building is an important part of any society, last week the debating society had LaserTag on their agenda to train their attack & defense skills which are necessary in any debate when shooting or protecting one's arguments. As can be seen in the leaderboard below, 'GOD' clearly used their higher power to win the game... Do you think that's fair? Let us know in the comments!
