Poised to making the students to be at the centre of their learning
Hello everyone,
My name is Alwell Maduakolam. I am an international student, studying MPH at the UWS.
I present myself to serve as the VP Education in the forthcoming union elections.
I am currently a classrep of the 2021 MPH cohorts and a member of the uni Media and Communications Team. I have been an active student in class participation and general engagement with the uni, representing the MPH students at Staff-Students Liaison meetings and Students Council Meeting. I have also been active in sharing my experience at the uni as an international student via blog posts.
I want to offer myself further to serve the students as the VP Education. I am putting myself forward for this role with a sense of responsibility and clear understanding of the crucial role of the VP Education.
If elected as the VP Education, I will:
1. Build on the legacies of Kelvin and run with the good programmes he initiated as the VP Education. Topmost is the wonderful initiative of students participation in presenting their research outputs. This is a laudable initiative that I intend to improve by making it more interactive and rewarding. I will make the presentation more regular to give more students opportunity to participate. This will help students benefit from the ground breaking researches at the uni. The best presentations will be projected online for students to access and appreciate.
2. I will also improve students active participation by creating a regular feedback mechanism where students give their anonymised opinions on the delivery of modules midway before the end of term. This will help to improve on the delivery of modules during the term. Students will benefit more from this than waiting to receive feedback from students on modules at the end of the term.
3. Students hangout: I will create more opportunities for students to interact informally outside the usual hectic academic work. This will help them to unwind and ease academic stress. This has become imperative with the hybrid learning where students do not have opportunity for extracurricular activities.
4. Participation in conferences.
I will advocate for PG students and undergraduate students in their final year to participate in conferences to develop further industry skills.
The above campaign promises are achievable and require good planning and thinking.
I am forwarding thinking, empathetic, confident, friendly, innovative, enthusiastic, easy-going and approachable.
Vote Alwell for effective representation.
