You want something done, SUBUOLA is the one! The girl with the SMILE will go the extra MILE.

Hello Everyone,

I am Subuola Elufioye an International Student from Nigeria in the MBA class of 2022 and I am running for the position of Vice President (Education) in the forthcoming student union election.

I believe that I am suitable for this role because of my understanding of the union and procedures.  Over the last two semesters, I have effectively represented my colleagues in the MBA cohorts by taking up various issues that are in the interest of the class to higher authority for appropriate and timely response. E.g., I initiated and chaired deliberating sessions to address and amend irregularities in our lecture times and days.

I also supported colleagues in reaching their educational goals by leading discussions with the school support team to resolve issues regarding options that are available to students that will enable them meet up with degree requirements.

It is based on these that I have decided to run for the post of VP (Education), as I would like to represent all students at UWS and provide active support that improves learning and educational experience.  In my experience as a student and course rep, I identified five critical issues that makes students learning difficult and having platform of VP (education), I plan to work closely with other sabbatical officers to negotiate the following:

  • Module transparency and choice availability: I will work to ensure that students starting their degrees have a better understanding of what topics modules include, as well as the modules that they will study throughout their course, while also having an input in what they will be studying.
  • Proper timetable and examination arrangement: We all want timetabling modernised and made more user-friendly, I will negotiate to improve the flexibility of timetables and work with the university to understand how exam timetables could be published earlier.
  • Preservation and increase in student placement and exchange opportunities: Coming to school should not only be about learning from textbooks, but we also need practical workplace experience that will give hands-on understanding of theories. I will campaign for us to have industry relevant exchange programs that will help better our learning experience.
  • Re-sit schedules and Payment: Having paid a lot for a specific degree, it is unfair for students to be asked to leave the school without the degree at the end of the session because of outstanding courses. We all learn differently and should be allowed and encouraged to do better rather than being made to feel worse for not doing well enough. Resits should be free and scheduled for a time when students have fewer workload to deal with rather than in the middle of another semester.

These are only some of the things that I would want to see through, if elected. But this campaign is not just about what I want, it is about what we as students want. It is about our learning experience at UWS and how to make it better.

Together, we can work to make sure that our voices are heard.
