If someone attempts to bully or harass you, or makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe you can complain about their behaviour to either the Union or the University, as outlined above.

All staff in the Union are employed to make our guests feel welcomed and supportive. If you experienced poor behaviour from a Union staff member, please used the Union’s complaints procedure

Like the Union’s staff, all University staff are employed to improve the student experience and to support students to the best of their ability. If you experienced poor behaviour from a University staff member, please use the University complaints procedure.

The Union and the University seek to ensure that the wider University community is a safe and welcoming space for all and you can complain if someone(s) make the environment feel unsafe or unwelcoming. Examples of behaviour that is considered unsafe and unwelcoming is below:

• Harassment, which we define as any behaviour which is directed at an individual or group which is non-consensual and/or continues to be repeated after there has been a request for it to stop.
• Abuse – both verbal and physical – which results in an individual or group feeling intimidated or unsafe.
• Sexual harassment – Any nonconsensual touching of another person, cat-calling or making continued unwelcome advances towards a person or group.
• Sexual Assault – any nonconsensual sexual act. If you have experienced a sexual assault the University has a Report and Support hub that has resources and the ability to get additional assistance if required. You can find this here. 
• Discrimination, including verbal and physical expressions of discrimination, based on any characteristics including, but not limited to:
  • Age
  • Social Class
  • Disability or Mental Illness
  • Gender
  • HIV/AIDS status
  • Marriage and Civil Partnership
  • Nationality
  • Political Affiliation
  • Race or Ethnicity
  • Religion and beliefs
